As far as Nintendo DS games go, this would have to be one of the best I've ever played. Basically, if you like Pokemon, Zelda and Final Fantasy then you'll love this latest Dragon Quest game, because it's like playing a combination of all three. You play the game as a Celestrian, a heavenly hero who is trying to solve the mystery of the recent upheavals in the Protectorate - the world you and your kind were created to guard. Unlike some games that can be over in a matter of days' game play, Dragon Quest is designed in such a way that you have to take your time. Like with accruing experience points and building levels with pokemon, you must do the same with your own personal Celestrian character, and the characters you create to complete your team. Only by increasing your levels will you become strong enough, and gain the necessary skills to beat some seriously tough bosses. There are side-quests aplenty to help with this, but the side-quests do much more than help to build skills. Some will also open up the opportunity to select new vocations and, subsequently, a whole new skillset. There are monsters and places in abundance to discover and conquer, and even when you think you've finished the game, you'll find you really haven't. Because finishing the game's main storyline only serves to open up a whole new range of quests to complete. Dragon Quest IX offers unlimited hours of game play, and I think you'd be very hard pressed to get bored with it. |

Dragon Quest IX has one of the best features that could come out on a DS game, creating your own characters. There are tons of games that you can create your characters." This may be true, but on how many games can you create your character, choose his/her class, and change appearance for every piece of equipment? Not too many apparently. This game not only has the looks, but it also has the lengthy story that will keep you playing for hundreds of hours. So besides the many hours you will invest into the story mode and into training for the big bosses throughout the story, there are also hundreds of side-quests to complete. You won't be able to complete all of them right away as some become available after you beat the game and furthermore, another 100 or so quests will be released on the Wi-fi connection for free. Many of these quests give you valuable equipment and items you will need for better items. Besides all the questing, there are also grottos which are basically random dungeons that have new, bigger, badder, bosses available. In short this game is more then worth the price tag on it you will be busy for days even weeks and still not get everything found or done. BUY IT is all I can say. |
